BT Phonepoint

When British Telecom Mobile Communications first launched their CT2 cellular phone technology in the mid 1980s, they needed a strikingly simple visual device to identify the location of their base stations. The design brief was circulated to half a dozen of the top design agencies, and in their view my strong circle-in-a triangle graphic was 'spot on'. Although over 900 base stations were rolled out (mostly within the M25) and a brief flurry of promotional activity followed, the brand was quickly overtaken by newer technology. At least my brief encounter with what could have become a national icon proved I could 'cut it with the big boys'.
